Navy Elementary Science Fair
STUDENT INFORMATION PACKET AVAILABLE!
The Navy Science Fair Student Information Packet is now available! All student participants will be given a copy at the Info/Q&A Session on February 9th. However, it would benefit your child to review this packet of information with him or her before the February 9th session. Even if your child has participated in past years, please review the packet as it has been newly updated. It also includes a copy of the Official Entry Form - which ALL students must complete and turn in by March 7th. Click here to download the packet.
Projects Are Student Driven
Project ideas should come from the students and students should drive their projects. It is important that the students can call the project their own.
Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young students, parents may provide some guidance.
Choose a Topic
Science Fair projects are about first asking questions like "Why?", "How?", or "What if?", then working to discover the answers, and finally presenting that work to your peers.
Project topics fall into one or more of the STEAM-related fields. Topics can include using the scientific method to explore and test scientific theories, using engineering and design methodologies to create a solution for a problem, or creating a model or presentation to show how something works. Check out additional resources for more ideas!
Safety is important and we follow these FCPS guidelines. Projects that do not meet these guidelines will not be permitted to display at the Science Fair.
Work With Someone Else
Work on your project independently, work with a partner, or work with a team--it's your choice!
*All participants must be current Navy Elementary students.* Partner or team members can come from different classes or grades. Maximum team size is four.
Student Participation and Recognition
Each participant will have an opportunity to present their project to a professional in a STEM field and/or a science teacher! They will be judged according to this judging rubric . All participants will receive a certificate and get to enjoy a reception in their honor, held at the end of the Science Fair.
Submit Your Photos
We want to include your photos of your children at work on their projects to illustrate STEM work is as much about the journey as the final result.
Upload photos of your young scientists on the Upload Photos link!
We will do our best to include as many submitted photos as possible. Due to constraints on running time, the slideshow may not include all photos submitted.
